Instructions after tooth extraction/minor oral surgery
1. Anesthesia(numbness) effect wears off in 1 to 2 hours. Take care not to bite your cheeks/lips or tongue in the anesthetized (numb) area.
2. Keep the sterile gauze pack over the extraction/surgical area with pressure for 30 minutes. Repeat necessary. If bleeding persists seek advice from your dentist.
3. Brush and floss teeth gently from the very next day.
4. Eat cold and soft diet for the next 24-36 hours.
5. Do not spit and rinse your mouth for 24 hours. If you do rinse, the clot of blood in the socket will be washed away and bleeding may start again. 24-36 hours after surgery you should start to rinse your mouth with salt added in luke warm water or mouthwash for atleast two to three minutes.
6. Drink liquids (juices) without straw.
7. Apply the ice packs from the outside for 24-36 hours.
8. Do not sleep on the side of the surgery.
9. Do not blow your nose with force for the next 12 hours.
10. Avoid alcohol and smoking for the first 24-36 hours.
11. If you have sutures, keep sutures clean. They should be removed within 7 days.
12. Take the medication as prescribed by the doctor regularly.
13. Post extraction pain and swelling is possible. Please inform the dentist.
